Prime Rib and Rib Tickler Sells out for its Second Annual Event

The Shelby Civic Center vibrated with excitement as people lined up to hand over their ticket stubs to the Prime Rib and Rib Tickler. Many were also paying their dues to the Marias River Livestock Association to ensure they would be in the BULL BUCKs Drawing. Carrie Lerum, secretary/treasurer of MRLA proudly held up a large Mila envelope, "We got many new memberships too. I'm not sure of the count yet but it was lots."

Friend and neighbors joined together for a night of feasting and fun. The Prime Rib dinner cooked by Dick Kinyon and his family from Conrad was delish as always. Sharon Berthelote from Sunburst area stated, "It just doesn't get any better than that. Prime rib that was fantastic, Wylie Gustafson, Rib Gustafson, and Ken Overcast and his beautiful and talented granddaughters for entertainment--all for $25. Such a fun night for a great cause."

When Rib Gustafson joined his son, Wylie Gustafson, on stage for a duet of a humorous tune the full house crowd roared with delight. This grand old man is still a strong entertainer. The Marias River Livestock Association's motto "Honoring the past, Protecting the future" was certainly modeled on the stage last Friday night, November 15, 2013.

Everyone was loved Ken Overcast and his fiddle play strong voiced granddaughters, Molly and Faith, who entertained with him. Mike Nice stated that he took a short video with his cell phone of Molly age 10 playing on stage to inspire his granddaughter Audrey Nice, also age 10, in her new adventure of learning to play the fiddle. He hoped that seeing someone else her age play would encourage her in practicing.

The Annual BULL BUCK drawing winner was Lance McDowell of Chester, MT. McDowell will receive a voucher for $750 off of a bull or seedstock heifer purchased from one of the local breeders who participated in the Bull Bucks program. With all the good genetic in Northern Montana he will have a great time shopping at the upcoming bull sales this fall and in the spring.

Jim Fritz was on hand to auction off four floral arrangements donated by Vintage Floral of Chester. Over $1600 was raised for the Youth Fund. The youth fund is to sponsor the Marias River Livestock Association's "Two Year Breeding Project" awards at the Marias Fair and other programs. Also to benefit the Youth Fund, Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance representative Mark Funk was on hand to help announce the new $1000 award that goes with the new "Breeding Success with Nationwide" program that Marias River Livestock Association will be organizing for youth 18 year of age and under from Liberty, Glacier, Pondera and Toole Counties. Applications can be obtained from Carrie Lerum at droughtsurvivor@yahoo.com or the application is available right here on our website.

This great event was made possible by the huge support of local businesses. The MRLA Board of Directors was overwhelmed and thankful for the generosity of the community which shows such strong support for the agriculture industry in this area.
